Why Dads Are Always Glad They Said Yes to Newborn Photos | Indianapolis Newborn Photographer
Most of the time, newborn photos are not Dad’s idea.
He’s supportive.
He wants you to be happy.
But he may not fully understand why something like professional newborn photos matters so much.
If he’s unsure, it usually sounds something like:
“Do we really need this?”
“Can’t we just take some photos ourselves?”
“Let’s wait and see how things go after the baby is here.”
Sound familiar?
On the surface, those questions make sense.
From his perspective, he’s thinking practically.
There’s a lot happening, a lot changing, and lot to prepare for.
Adding “book a newborn photographer” to the list
might not feel essential to him.
But here’s what I’ve learned after working with so many families through the years.
Dads may hesitate before the session,
but they are ALWAYS grateful afterward.
What Changes for Him
The reality is that he just doesn’t fully see it yet!
It’s not because he doesn’t care.
He just hasn’t experienced things the same way you have.
Generally, as you go through pregnancy, you are feeling all of the emotions and you are bonding with your baby as she grows inside of you.
Daddy can feel your tummy and sometimes feel the baby kick against his hand. He can see your belly grow to make room for your growing baby, but he doesn’t really understand until that moment when he sees his baby.
The moment when he sees YOU holding your baby. This baby who is a beautiful combination of both of you.
This is the moment when it all becomes real in a way
that’s hard to put into words.
Photographs have a way of slowing things down and preserving these emotions.
They give shape to something that otherwise feels like a blur.
For many dads, it is in these moments when it clicks.
What Dads Say After the Session
Over the years, I’ve heard from many dads after their newborn sessions.
I will let their words speak for themselves.
As my wife would tell you, it’s always a struggle to convince me, and usually all males, to agree to a photoshoot (and not complain the entire time)! But working with Shauna was amazing. She was quick but thorough and made sure to get the photos we now adore and have hung all around the house.
I highly recommend all males bite the bullet and support their wives in choosing Shauna to capture your newborn photos.
Your future self will thank you!
Better yet, surprise your wife with a session!

I wanted to get heirloom photos of our daughter to capture a precious moment in time. We were new parents and holding our daughter makes the world stop!
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
To have that new chapter captured in such beautiful pictures is something we’ll cherish forever!
~ Drew Brown
I was glad to have heirloom quality newborn photos to be able to capture our son in the adorable stage he was in.
These photos also captured the extreme joy the first few days of parenthood brought.
In our house, and at my work, I have pictures hanging up from our photo shoot. It shows our family as we first started out, and it makes me smile and reflect on that time and also all the growth we’ve seen since then in our son.
One of my favorite pictures is me holding my son with my wedding ring clearly visible.
It serves as a constant reminder for me to the commitment and love I have for my wife and son.

It’s Not Just About the Photos
What many husbands don’t expect is this:
It’s not just about the images.
It’s about having a space where everything slows down
for just a little while.
A space where they can sit beside you,
watch their baby, and simply take it all in.
In those early days, life moves quickly.
There are feedings, sleepless nights, and constant adjustments.
During a newborn session, there’s a pause.
Often, that’s something dads didn’t realize they needed.
A Thoughtful, Easy Experience (For Both of You)
One of the biggest concerns I hear from dads is:
“How complicated is this going to be?”
I’ve intentionally created an experience that feels simple from start to finish.
As your Indianapolis newborn photographer,
everything is prepared for you ahead of time.
I communicate thoroughly before the session so that there are no last-minute decisions or last minute complicated planning.
There is no added stress during an already full season.
You arrive, I provide thorough guidance, and you leave knowing it was worth it.
Dads often tell me afterward how surprisingly easy and meaningful the experience felt.
For the Dad Who Isn’t Sure Yet
If you’re reading this as a dad,
you don’t have to fully understand it right now.
You don’t have to feel emotional about it yet.
But one day, you will look back on these images, and you’ll see more than just a photograph.
You’ll see how small your baby was, how everything was just beginning, how much changed, so quickly.
And you’ll so be glad you said yes.
