From newborn to first birthday | Esther's Cake Smash Session | Indianapolis Newborn Photographer

Little Miss Esther came to see me when she was just a tiny new baby.

Her momma requested simple colors and neutral set ups.

This choice of colors and themes was a perfect fit and truly accented how beautiful Esther was as a brand new baby!

When Esther’s momma reached out to chat about her first birthday session, she had some specific set ups she really wanted, and when she shared them with me, my heart was just melting as I began planning for each one!

Every cake smash session allows for 2 outfits for your little one

in addition to the cake smash set up.

You don’t want every photo of your baby’s first birthday session to consist of smashing cake!

It’s nice to have a variety of photos to commemorate this special milestone.

Typically, momma shares a photo of the outfits and I will have backdrops ready that coordinate with those outfits.

We started Esther’s session with a few family shots.

I always encourage parents to get a few family photos at baby’s milestone session. These heirloom photos are just as much for her as they are for you as the parents! One day when she’s older and grown, she will be blessed to look back at these photos of you and treasure this special stage of her life and your lives as a family.

Isn’t it amazing how much Esther changed in one year?

Esther looked so pretty in her dreamy cream dress from the family photos

We had to take a few of her by herself before we changed her for her next set up!

And now it was time to capture Esther in the first set up momma requested.

She had seen a photo from a session I had done featuring Winnie the Pooh and friends and wanted to have Esther photographed with the same set up.

So here you have it! Esther got some sweet photos on a cloud with Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore!

Esther had fun talking to each of her friends!

Momma couldn’t decide which bow she liked best with this set up so we did photos with both and even grabbed a shot of her without a bow for variety.

Before we moved on to the next set up,

Esther took some time to look at the stars with her friends.

Our next set up was truly one of the dreamiest milestone sessions done

in my Indianapolis studio!

Esther looked like the sweetest little angel sitting in the clouds!

And now for the grand finale!

Esther’s cake smash set up was a simple white, blush pink, and gold theme. It was simple, but elegant.

It tied well to her newborn photos.

We grabbed some photos of Esther with her birthday set up before we gave her the cake so we would have some photos that weren’t messy. She looked like a perfect little princess with these colors accenting her!

And now it was time to introduce the cake!

Esther was fascinated with the decorations on top and focused on those for a while at first. Then she started playing with the cake and had some fun trying it!

Momma and Daddy had to help encourage her to try it a bit, but overall she had fun playing with the cake and getting a little messy!

It was such a joy to help this sweet family celebrate this very special first birthday milestone for their precious baby girl!
