A Day in the Life of a Newborn Photographer | Indianapolis Newborn Photographer

Come with me and join me as I share the work that goes on behind the scenes before and after your newborn session!

Serving you by providing heirloom quality photos of those most precious to you is the delight of my heart. You see me with camera in hand and everything in place during your session.

But come hang out with me behind the scenes while I show you the work that is done before and after your session here in Indianapolis to ensure your experience is as comfortable, rich and enjoyable as it can possibly be!

1. Communication

Sessions alway start with communication. It may be an email or an Instagram message. It may be a text or a phone call.

Maybe you did a google search and you are looking for more information. Maybe you saw someone post their photos from their session on Facebook or Instagram and you realized you want quality photos just like the ones you see. Maybe you have a friend or relative that sent you my way.

Whatever reason led our paths to cross, it starts with communication.

A big part of my job in preparation for a session is time at my laptop answering emails or on my phone texting with you to work through details of your session. We will talk through the best date and time for your session, and discuss any preferences or special requests you have.

We will chat about outfits, colors and so much more!

For maternity, milestone or family sessions, communication is also involved with venues to work out details of any fees required and obtaining a photographer’s pass to plan your session for that location.

For cake smash sessions, there is communication with my cake lady to talk through details of a themed cake and work out a pick up time.

2. Session prep

Every session requires a lot of prep work. This is especially the case for newborn and cake smash sessions in my Indianapolis studio. There are backdrops to set up and smooth out. Wraps, tiebacks and bonnets, florals and greenery, and many other little extra touches take time to prepare and lay out so that every single detail of the session is ready for you in the best way possible.

3. Session clean up

Newborn sessions are followed with laundry. Backdrops and wraps often need spots cleaned out and all must be laundered so they are fresh and clean for the next session.

Cake smash sessions are followed with cleaning up frosting and smashed cake on the floor and any props the birthday kiddo decided to explore with messy frosting fingers. Props and backdrops are taken down and put away.

Maternity gowns are always freshly laundered and carefully laid out to dry.

4. Editing, editing, editing!

Hundreds of photos are taken at almost every session. Time is taken to cull through those photos and the very best are hand picked for you. Then each of those hand picked photos are carefully edited one at a time so that every single photo in your gallery is heirloom quality.

Some photos take extra care because two photos need to be composited into one.

5. Preparing your art work

Every package includes an art work gift certificate. I will take time to order prints and canvasses from only the very best professional labs providing the highest quality so that the display of your photos remains beautiful for years to come.

If you choose a custom album, time is taken to carefully design your album and communicate with you to know your preferences. A proof of your album will be sent to you for approval, and I will make any changes you would like until it is as perfect as you would like!

5. Always here to serve you

Once your session is over and everything has been delivered to you, I want you to know you are more than a client.

You are a friend.

And I am here to continue serving you as your baby and family reach new milestones that need to be beautifully captured. I’m also here to encourage you and be a support to you in between those times along this beautiful journey of life.
