Sweet little Chikamsi made her appearance earthside just shortly after Christmas, and I got to meet her just a few days later.
We started her newborn session capturing her with momma to remember the precious bond at this fresh and fleeting stage.
Chikamsi’s skin tones were beautifully complimented by light purple and lavender hues. We added in some cream and sage colors as well! Isn’t she just beautiful?
We posed her in light and airy colors, as well, and she looked like a sweet little angel.
Fast forward one year and it was just after Christmas again. This time, little Miss Chikamsi came to see me to celebrate reaching her first big milestone -
her first birthday!
Momma had seen a fun idea I had done of a 9 square box, and requested this for part of the session. We started with this set up and did some outfit changes to make the final photo a fun collection of various photos all in one!

Momma wanted to capture some moments with her sweet girl. We incorporated a lot of fun into this session!
Momma told me she wanted to match Chikamsi with these dreamy pink dresses
We took some fun shots with a simple white backdrop to create timeless mom and daughter heirlooms.
We captured a few photos of Chikamsi by herself before setting up for another fun backdrop with this dress.
Momma requested photos that would make it appear that Chikamsi was in the clouds. The combination of the clouds and sweet Chikamsi in this precious blush dress gave us photos that made her look like a sweet angel!
We switched gears a bit. Momma had another set of matching dresses, but this time, they were deep purples, oranges and blacks.
Once again, just as in her newborn photos, Chikamsi looked beautiful in hues of purple! And momma did too!
We did a few shots of momma and Chikamsi together and some of Chikamsi by herself with this warm backdrop on the couch.
Then we switched over to the simple light backdrop. This gave such a beautiful variety of shots, and both backdrops provided a beautiful staging for these heirloom photos.
And finally, it was time for the cake smash!
Momma sent me photos of ideas and looks that she wanted for the cake smash, and I brought those ideas to life. I had my amazing cake lady, Kenna Livingston, make this beautiful smash cake highlighted with blush pink rosettes. We added a bit of gold and shimmery accents and some delicate blush flowers.
We always get a couple of shots of the birthday girl and the backdrop before adding the cake into the photos.
If we are going to have a beautiful backdrop like this, we don’t want all of the photos to have cake in them. It allows so much variety to do some quick shots like this before adding in the cake!
Once baby starts enjoying her cake, we get photos of the action and make sure we get several different angles to thoroughly capture the experience!
