Maternity photo session FAQ | Indianapolis Maternity Photographer | WHAT TO WEAR

Often when preparing to book a maternity photo session, lots of questions arise.

  • How close to the due date should we book the session?

  • How many outfits should we plan for?

  • What kinds of locations are available?

  • What time of day is best?

  • How does a maternity session work with my other child/children?

  • If I have a special item, may I bring it to the photo session?

…. and many more!

In my last blog post I discussed the process of deciding on a date to book your maternity session as well as the timing of when to contact me to begin discussing this.

So on to more fun things . . . WHAT TO WEAR!

At every maternity session, I encourage you to plan for two different outfits. One outfit is going to be more casual such as a simple stretch shirt that fits nicely around your baby bump and that you are very comfortable in. This is usually paired with jeans or something of a similar nature. Your hubby will also wear a simple t-shirt or comfortable casual shirt that coordinates with your outfit.

The second outfit will be more elegant. If you have a dress that you love that accents your baby bump and makes you feel pretty when you put it on, then we will go with that!

A  handful of beautiful maternity gowns is available to you! These gowns have a comfortable, beautiful stretch that can be used by mommas of all shapes and sizes! When you book your maternity session, we will chat about colors that you like and that compliment you based on your hair and eye color and skin tone. You also have a small selection of flower crowns available to you if you would like that extra touch of elegance!  For hubby, a solid colored button down shirt that is worn untucked with the sleeves rolled and a pair of jeans or khakis usually pairs nicely.

If this is not your first pregnancy and we are capturing a big brother or big sister or both, we will discuss outfits for the big siblings that will coordinate well with the choices that have already been made for you and your hubby.

Here are a couple of visuals to help as you are thinking about pairing outfits and colors for you maternity session!
